Scottish Conservative Shadow Health Secretary Miles Briggs is calling for community pharmacies to have access to GP records.
The Scottish Government previously made a commitment that community pharmacies in Scotland would have access to the emergency care summary by 2014, but this has not been delivered.
The call follows the announcement that community pharmacy access to the welsh GP record will be piloted from 11 December 2017 and rolled-out across the whole pharmacy network in March 2018.
In England community pharmacists have had access to the summary care record since 2015.
Research has also estimated that over 1 in 10 GP consultations and 1 in 20 A&E attendances could have been managed by community pharmacists utilising the Minor Ailment Service.
The Scottish Conservative campaign "Save our Surgeries" calls on the Scottish Government to prioritise support and funding for primary care.
Miles Briggs MSP, Scottish Conservative shadow health secretary said:
"Scotland is clearly well behind the curve on how to transform General Practice and deliver person centred health care by making Scotland’s pharmacies a key partner in primary health care.
"Scottish Conservatives strongly believe that by enabling community pharmacists to access the GP record, people will receive better, safer and more accessible care.
"Our campaign, Save Our Surgeries aims to support GPs and ensure they have the funding and flexibility they need to provide appropriate support patients across Scotland who have diverse needs and who need flexible care and support.
"Enabling community pharmacies to access records will support GPs further by ensuring their patients continue to access joined up, safe, comprehensive care.
“Scottish Conservatives are passionate about transforming our NHS and helping to deliver the patient focussed health care we all want to see – it’s time the Scottish Government got on with the job.”
