The Scottish Government must properly explain to commuters why the Queensferry Crossing is to partially close so soon after opening, Ruth Davidson has said.
She urged Nicola Sturgeon and transport minister Humza Yousaf to get on top of the infrastructure brief, after both claimed ignorance about the need for “snagging” work to be carried out over coming days.
But rather than apologising to motorists, the First Minister said opposition parties were spreading “misinformation” on the bridge closure, which comes into effect tonight.
Yesterday, Transport Scotland confirmed to Holyrood that it knew about the need to repair the road surface, but the £1 million opening ceremony went ahead anyway.
However, ministers have said they were unaware, meaning crucial information hadn’t been obtained about the largest infrastructure project to take place north of the border in recent years.
At First Minister’s Questions today, Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson sought more details on further works planned over the next 10 months.
And she praised commuters between Edinburgh and Fife for their patience at another Forth crossing fiasco on the SNP’s watch.
Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson said:
“The SNP pushed through the opening of this bridge then claimed it as a sign of competent government.
“Now, just weeks later, the very same bridge has had to partially close to address problems that were known about in the summer, but kept from the public.
“Either ministers knew about these problems, but ignored them to get the Queensferry Crossing open on time.
