Following a question from Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson today, the First Minister confirmed ScotRail would publish a 250-point improvement plan in coming days.
However, for the last month transport minister Humza Yousaf has resisted detailing what’s in that plan, and failed to say during a Holyrood statement yesterday that it would ever be shared with passengers.
This is despite ongoing problems on Scotland’s rail network, including more delays this morning.
And while Ms Sturgeon said the plan would be made public, she failed to say how long it would take for these actions to have any impact on day-to-day services.
Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson said:
“It’s of course welcome that we’re finally going to see some transparency from this Scottish Government over its plans to improve the rail network.
“But passengers will wonder why on earth it’s been left to Nicola Sturgeon to come in and clear up the mess when her transport minister has had ample opportunity to do so.
“People on overcrowded carriages or standing on platforms waiting for delayed trains don’t just want to know what’s going to change, they want to know when as well.
“This contract has at least six years to run.
“But following the events of the last few weeks, commuters have completely lost confidence in the SNP’s ability to ensure Scotland has a rail network fit for the 21st century.”
